I think the greatest poetry is revealing to the reader the beauty in something that was so simple that you have taken for granted. That, I think, is the job of the poet. And so, the simplicity of the universe, I think, if it doesn’t drive you to poetry, it drives you to bask in the majesty of the cosmos.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson, the mediator of the event, and 5 physicists (including two women, which I mention because it’s the first time I’ve seen a physics debate/talk feature women) and one engineer discuss everything from the scientific method, the higgs boson, the pros and cons of publishing scientific mistakes and what have you to the public, neutrinos, the future of physics, how GPS’ are calibrated which bolsters the theories of relativity and so much more.

The problem, often not discovered until late in life, is that when you look for things in life like love, meaning, motivation, it implies they are sitting behind a tree or under a rock. The most successful people in life recognize, that in life they create their own love, they manufacture their own meaning, they generate their own motivation.
For me, I am driven by two main philosophies, know more today about the world than I knew yesterday. And lessen the suffering of others. You’d be surprised how far that gets you.
