It is easy to forget that, as late as 1967, sixteen states still had laws prohibiting racial intermarriage. It was only with the Supreme Court judgment in the aptly named Loving v. Virginia that legal prohibitions on interracial marriage were ruled unconstitutional throughout the United States. Even then, Tennessee did not formally repeal the relevant article of its constitution until March 1978 and Mississippi put off doing so until December 1987.

I deviated a bit from my Summer Reading List due to what was available and to the fact that I have very little money to spend on anything that is not food, and shelter. I decided to read Civilization: the West and the Rest because it was available as a free download through my libraries online ebook service (which is awesome, I should add!)My Goodreads review HERE, which perhaps comes off as too forgiving due to his obvious enmity towards Islam, and socialism, for example. However, if you read my review you will see my reasoning for such a high score. I felt many different feelings as I was reading and most were not good.
